What is the FHSS Writing Lab?
The FHSS Writing Lab provides free writing help for students within the BYU College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. This includes students from the Anthropology, Economics, School of Family Life, Geography, History, Neuroscience, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology disciplines.
Who works at the Lab?
Our advisors are friendly undergraduate students studying a variety of social science disciplines. They have extensive writing experience and training in teaching writing skills.
I'm a student in the FHSS College. How can the lab help me?
We offer individual, face-to-face sessions to help you become a better writer. We focus on global aspects of writing, such as thesis construction, organization, transitions, idea development, logical coherence, style, and argument clarity. We welcome writers with papers at any stage in the writing process.
How can I get an appointment?
Schedule an appointment online. Please note that if our appointment schedule is full, we may not be able to accommodate walk-ins.
I signed up on the spreadsheet. How will I get contacted for my appointment?
One of our advisors will share a google document to your email on the spreadsheet the day before your appointment that has further instructions and a zoom link posted on it. If you didn't get an email, check your "shared with me" tab in Google Drive. Please contact us if you haven't received a google doc by the time of your appointment!
